As part of the Symposium Connexions Employeurs held on February 15 in Ottawa, Ms. Salimata Soro, Director of Immigration and Employability of CDEM presented the Connexions Employeurs Award to Loblaw, represented by Mr. Greg Faiczak, Vice-President and Julie Chan, Director of Finance.
The Connexions Employeurs Awards is an initiative of RDÉE Canada that aims to recognize employers active in Canada’s Francophone and Acadian communities. These communities include, outside Quebec, approximately one million Francophones active in the labour market. RDÉE members from the various provinces and territories, except Quebec, have the privilege of working and collaborating with Canadian employers mobilized to recruit, hire and integrate skilled French-speaking and bilingual immigrant workers. Through their commitment, these employers contribute to the development of the Francophone economy in their communities.
In fact, the award was presented to Loblaw as one of the employers of choice with whom CDEM works through the PROAction structured mentoring program. Diomede Burihabwa, a client of CDEM, explains how the mentorship program and Loblaw have supported him in his professional journey as a newcomer:
“I was assigned a mentor who provided training over several weeks. My mentor is patient and is always ready to support me whenever I come across any difficulties in my duties. I am also supported by other colleagues within my team who have different skills to handle tasks. Therefore, my manager makes sure that all the experienced colleagues get involved in coaching me and other new employees in order to acquire those skills that will help us to succeed in our new role. I am very grateful for all the support I have received as a newcomer to Canada and being a part of Loblaws.” Diomede Burihabwa, Bilingual Senior Payroll Coordinator at Loblaw since September 12, 2022.
